Chesnut Springs by Elsie Silver - A Series Review

The Chestnut Springs Series by Elsie Silver is a series of five romance novels set in a fictional western town, on a ranch following the love lives of three brothers and two other characters. Be warned, once you start this series you will not be able to put it down. I binged the whole thing in a week, these books are so easy to read and I was emmersed in the world, the author really knows how to describe a setting and make you feel like you’re there without the book feeling overly descriptive.

The series starts with Flawless which follows Rhett Eaton and Summer Hamilton. Rhett is a bullriding star and top of his game until he let’s slip that he doesn’t like milk. Yes you read that correctly, without Rhett’s hatred of milk we would not have this amazing series. With all his sponsors now unsure about Rhett, his PR manager sends Summer to babysit Rhett and keep him out of trouble while they fix his mistakes. The only rule, Rhett has to keep his hands off of Summer, his PR manager’s daughter. But rules our made to be broken and that is where their story begins. I finished most of this book in one sitting and if I hadn’t been on the verge of passing out, I definitely would have finished it.

The second book in the series is Heartless which follows Rhett’s oldest brother Cade, a grumpy, single dad…this book was a 6 Star read, I cannot put into words how obsessed I am with this book, with Cade and the female love interest (who I won’t be naming to avoid spoilers). The banter between the two characters was amazing, Cade is extremely grumpy and seeing his reactions to the love interest’s personality made me genuinely laugh out loud. This was definitely my favourite book in the series, I even have a favourite chapter! (Chapter 11).

Powerless is book three in the series and it follows Jasper, a childhood friend/unoffically adopted brother of the eaton boys. Jasper is a quiet and broody NFL hockey player who has a tragic past that led to him becoming one of the eatons when they were younger. This book features a road trip, two best friends and two broken hearts. This book wasn’t as strong for me as the first two were, I loved the characters but I’m not a massive fan of friends to lovers. However I did still end up giving this one 5 stars, it was a 4.5 but there’s a certain side character who deserves that extra 0.5 because they are hilarious.

We then have Reckless, a book I didn’t think I would enjoy that much because of the FMC. She’s shown up in previous books and I never liked her but perspectives change when you’re reading things from her point of view. I also fell head over heels for Theo Silva, despite the rocky start, he really shines throughout the book, he’s respectful and protective but not in an overbearing way and his interactions with a specific character in this book were the absolute sweetest scenes to read.

The final book, Hopeless was my lowest rated book, I gave it 4 stars which is still quite a high rating but compared to the other four books, it felt like a big drop. In this one we’re following Beau, the middle eaton brother and while I loved his character when he popped up throughout the other books, getting to his book was slightly disappointing. I felt like there was something missing from this story and so I wasn’t completely hooked like I was with the rest of the series.

If you like romance and want something fun, easy to read and addictive, I recommend this series. Beware, you may become a cowboy obsessed fan in the process!

  2. Flawless - 5 stars!
