Book to Screen Adaptations

Books are a source of escapism for us. So are movies and with some large amount of luck sometimes are favorites are picked to be brought to life. These are the ones I think were well adapted. Similar enough to the book that the readers can enjoy it but also different enough so it’s not just a carbon copy of the book.

The Witcher Series:

I’m sure by now everyone knows of The Witcher TV show starring Henry Cavill as the one and only Geralt of Rivia, what makes the series adaptation so great is Henry Cavill is actually an avid fan of the series himself meaning we get to see a well developed character from the very beginning. Not only does Henry fit the character looks wise but his interest in the work enables him to envelop the role of Geralt with an enthusiasm we don’t get to see that often when an adaptation is made.

Agatha Christie’s Poirot:

If you’re a fan of cosy mysteries then you will definitely know of the Agatha Christie and even though I don’t read a lot in the crime/thriller genre, I have always been a fan of Agatha Christie’s work, especially the character Hercule Poirot. Though there are films featuring some of the Hercule Poirot’s stories. I’m going to be focusing on the TV show that ran from 1989 to 2013 featuring David Suchet. Once again they couldn’t have found a better fit for the role. David Suchet looks and acts the part of Hercule Poirot almost perfectly.

A Man Called Ove:

For some reason they changed Ove to Otto however that small detail does not take away from the fact that the film might just be one of the best movie adaptations I have ever seen. Featuring a well loved Tom Hanks as Otto/Ove, we see the real extent of grief and how you can always find a new purpose to life even when you think there isn’t one. Both book and film are truly moving and heartfelt masterpieces.

Daisy Jones & The Six

Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of my favourite authors for historical fiction. Daisy Jones & The Six was my first read from her and I absolutely adored the book. So when I heard there was going to be an adaptation I was ecstatic. Now I have yet to watch the first episode of the miniseries but I have high hopes that it will do the book justice as I’ve heard feedback from many friends that it’s definitely worth the watch. So if you loved the book or you love musical dramas, this is definitely one to add to your watch list.
