Fantasy Books Coming Out in January to June 2025

It’s a new year which means new books and there are plenty of new fantasies that we absolutely can not wait to get our hands on. From debut authors, new series and sequels we have been waiting a thousand years to read, there is plenty to look forward to in the first half of the year.

A Language of Dragons by S.F. Williamson - 2nd January

An epic, sweeping fantasy with an incredible Dark Academia setting, a clandestine, slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance, and an unputdownable story, filled with twists and turns, betrayals and secret identities. This is the perfect book for any Fourth Wing fan.

Cruel is the Light by Sophie Clark - 23rd January

A brutal war between demons and humanity has raged across Europe for over a century. At its heart are two elite soldiers: Selene Alleva, a powerful exorcist trained at the prestigious Vatican Academy, and foot soldier, Jules Lacroix, unrivalled in battle.

When their paths cross, despite initial distrust – then unwelcome attraction – Jules and Selene discover a terrible secret at the heart of the holy Vatican City . . .

This sizzling YA romantasy is perfect for fans of Divine Rivals and is one that I highly recommend getting your hands on.

Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros - 25th January

The most anticipated book for most if not all romantasy lovers in 2025 is of course Onyx Storm, the third installment in the Empyrean series that took the world by storm in 2023. Featuring sarcastic dragons, epic battles and twists that leave your jaw on the floor, what more could you ask for?

Grave Empire by Richard Swan - 4th February

From the author of The Empire of The Wolf trilogy comes an explosive epic fantasy of gunpowder, arcane powers and dark prophecy.

Blood once turned the wheels of empire. Now it is money. A new age of exploration and innovation has dawned, and the Empire of the Wolf stands to take its place as the foremost power in the known world.

Glory and riches await. But dark days are coming. A mysterious plague has broken out in the pagan kingdoms to the north, while in the south, the Empire's proxy war in the lands of the wolfmen is weeks away from total collapse.

The Sirens by Emilia Hart - 13th February

Lucy is running from what she’s done – and what someone did to her.
Lucy is now alone, in a strange town steeped in rumour.

Stories of men disappearing without a trace. A foundling discovered in a sea-swept cave. And women’s voices murmuring on the waves… As Lucy searches for her sister, those voices get ever louder.

They tell of two sisters, two centuries ago, bound and transported across the world. A world where men always get their way. A world that is at once distant, and achingly familiar.

The Dark Mirror by Samantha Shannon - 25th February

Three years after the original release of The Masking Falling, the fourth book in The Bone Season series, the fifth book is finally here. Full of action and conspiracies, if you haven’t read the series yet, make sure you do because this next installment is one you’ll want to sink your teeth into.

High on both mine and Robyn’s anticipated releases for 2025, while we have both been lucky to have read an advanced copy, we can’t wait for everyone else to be able to read it as this is a series neither of us will stop recommending.

Our Infinite Fates by Laura Steven - 27th February

A star-crossed lovers romance that spans a millennia, Evelyn can remember all her past lives. She can also remember that in every single one, she’s been murdered before her eighteenth birthday.

So now she has to:find the centuries-old enemy who hunts her through each life and destroy them foreverfigure out exactly why she’s being hunted in the first place, try quite hard not to fall in love with them…again.

A Robyn recommended read.

The Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli - 27th February

The second and final book in The Crimson Moth duology. The Crimson Moth is a high stakes, enemies to lovers, romantasy that sees a witch and a witch hunter falling for each other. See how Rune and Gideon’s story ends in this highly anticipated conclusion.

A Curse Carved in Bone by Danielle L. Jensen - 13th May

The finale to the norse inspired romantasy that started with A Fate Inked in Blood, where a shield maiden blessed by the gods battles to unite a nation under a power-hungry king - while also fighting her growing desire for his fiery son.

Bound in an unwanted marriage, Freya spends her days gutting fish, but dreams of becoming a warrior. And of putting an axe in her boorish husband's back.

The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig - 20th May

The next big romantasy phenomenon from the author of One Dark Window: a gothic, mist-cloaked tale of a prophetess who is forced beyond the safety of her cloister on an impossible quest to defeat the gods with the one knight whose future is beyond her sight. Sybil Delling has spent nine years dreaming of having no dreams at all.

Like the other foundling girls who traded a decade of service for a home in the great cathedral, Sybil is a Diviner. Just as she and her sister Diviners near the end of their service, a mysterious knight arrives at the cathedral. Rude, heretical, and devilishly handsome, the knight Rodrick has no respect for Sybil's visions. But when Sybil's fellow Diviners begin to vanish one by one, she has no choice but to seek his help in finding them.

For the world outside the cathedral's cloister is wrought with peril. Only the gods have the answers she is seeking, and as much as she'd rather avoid Rodrick's dark eyes and sharp tongue, only a heretic can defeat a god.

The Book That Held Her Heart by Mark Lawrence - 10th April

The third and final book in The Library trilogy. Both myself and Daniel, thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series, The Book That Wouldn’t Burn and though we have yet to read the the second book, it’s safe to say we are both very excited to not have years wait to see the end of Livira and Evar’s stories.

Bury Our Bones In The Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab - 10th June

From the author of The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue and the Darker Shade of Magic series comes a new genre-defying, unforgettable novel to sink your teeth into.

Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 1532. London, 1837.

Boston, 2019. Three young women, their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots. One grows high, and one grows deep, and one grows wild.

And all of them grow teeth.
