Join Sam Holland (aka Louisa Scarr) and Heather Critchlow as they spend an evening in conversation talking all things crime fiction.
Sam Hollandexploded onto the crime thriller world in 2022 with her debut novel, The Echo Man, shocking and enthralling readers and reviewers alike with its sinister depiction of a serial killer copying notorious real-life murderers of the past. Her books have been published in 15 countries worldwide, including the US, Germany and the Netherlands, where she became the first author to win the Bronze Bat for her debut and the Silver Bat for best thriller in consecutive years at the Nederlands Thrillerfestival.
She also writes as Louisa Scarr, and is the author of the Butler and West police crime thrillers, beginning with Last Place You Look and ending with Out of the Ashes. A new series, about a police dog handler, launched in July 2024 with Gallows Wood. Book two, Memorial Park, is out now and will be followed by Broken House in October.
Heather Critchlow grew up in rural Aberdeenshire and trained as a business journalist after studying history and social science at Cambridge university. Published by Canelo in May 2023, her debut novel Unsolved was shortlisted for the Bloody Scotland Debut Prize and is the first in a series about true crime podcaster Cal Lovett.
Unburied was published in January 2024. It was followed by Unsound in September 2024 and a further two books in the Cal Lovett series are planned. Heather’s first speculative crime thriller The Tomorrow Project will be out in hardback in May 2025.
Heather’s short stories are featured in Afraid of the Light, Afraid of the Christmas Lights and Afraid of the Shadows, collections of fiction written by crime writers for charity. She lives in Hertfordshire.
